Wyatt Emory Cooper (September 1, 1927 – January 5, 1978) was an American author, screenwriter, and actor. He was a member of the prominent Vanderbilt family through his mother. He is primarily known for being the husband of Gloria Vanderbilt and the father of Anderson Cooper.
Cooper was born in Meridian, Mississippi. He came from a wealthy Southern family, with his mother, Anne Vanderbilt, being a member of the famous Vanderbilt family. He served in the U.S. Navy.
He authored several books, including "Families: A Memoir and a Celebration" and "The Rainbow Comes and Goes," which he co-authored with his wife.
Cooper died during open-heart surgery at the age of 50. His death had a profound impact on his family, particularly his sons.
